For Deputy Sergeant David Wolf, life in the small ski resort town in the middle of the Colorado Rockies is getting complicated. His ex-wife is in back from rehab, jealousy of his upcoming promotion to sheriff is escalating to violence, and a boy from town has just been reported missing. But all that trouble falls to background noise when Wolf learns his brother has just committed suicide in northern Italy.

Devastation and resentment of his sibling's selfish act is short-lived, though, because Wolf knows one thing is for certain: his brother would never kill himself.

Suspicion there is more to the story is enough to rip Wolf from the pressing issues at home, and plant him in the wholly foreign city of Lecco, Italy--a beautiful town on the shores of Lake Como--where deadly deception waits among the ancient streets.

With the aid of a beautiful Carabinieri agent named Lia, Wolf must try to piece together what happened to his brother that fateful night. But with treachery in Lecco running deeper than the lake lapping its shores, the closer he gets to the truth, the further into danger he's drawn. Can Wolf manage to make those responsible pay? Or will he be returning home in a box of his own?
